New SATA seagate
Just bought a new seagate 250 sata HDD oem..Been trying to get the thing to work. It will show up in the BIOS, when I go to DISK manegement to format and partition it wil start and then stop and my disk goes away like it was never there..I'm using a asus p4p 800e deluxe mobo. What Im trying to do is clone my IDE drive to my sata...

I think you will find your motherboard is a Sata I motherboard which is no problem, except your new Sata hard disk is a Sata II compatible. One must first change the little jumper on that new Sata hard disk to be Sata I compliant. Give that a go and see what happens.

That didnt work,it actually made me believe it would though the way it started off. Tried to format in disk management,it started and as soon as it read 1 % the drive just disapeard..

Download and run Seatools (manufacturer's utility) and let it partition and format that drive. Then, give it a try again.

downloaded seatools and run the test..it failed all of them. was going to try dwnldn firware but seagate dwnld page wouldnt load. Run disc wizard it ask to reboot computer I did, and paused for a minute and I got a operation error/write error..So know I dont know if I need to buy a controller card, or throw away my new drive..

I would RMA that drive if it failed all tests on Seatools. Seems like they may have sold you a faulty drive that is not usable. Hope you can exchange it for a good one, because they do make high quality drives.
