I cannot format or install new operataing system.I have updated the Bios but still no help.I have Xp sp2 install on my Pc.I have pentium 4 3.2Ghz ,1Gb of memory. Re: How to install new WD Sata2 Hard Drive?
A couple of thoughts. When you tried to install the OS on this drive, did you have the floppy to install Sata Drivers at the F6 prompt??? If your mainboard only supports Sata I, did you set the new drive so it can recognize it as a Sata I? Most older boards don't support Sata II, so you need to change the drive to be recognized.

Re: How to install new WD Sata2 Hard Drive?
Hi Thanks,
I cannot install any OS on this drive.I cannot get to the bottem of the screen. When I boot up the system,Durning the post routine I get the text listing Bios, Award ver.1.71. Then text lists PRIMARY CHANNEL WD 250 GB,then SECONDRY CHANNEL 750GB.......AND THE CURSOR JUST BLINKS AND JUST HANG AT THIS POINT AND DOES NOT MOVE DOWN THE SCREEN,no other text appears.I cannot format the drive and cannot install xp on it. I did try to start up the system for CD rom , and tried to install XP , but a message appeared " NO HARD DRIVE IS INSTALLED ON THIS SYSTEM" I do have sata drivers, but the system does not recognize the new drive. My Gigabyte GA-8KNXP mother board has Serial ATA Connector (SATA0_SB/SATA1_SB) and Serial ATA Connector ( SATA0_SII/SATA1_SII). Any Help Please???? |

Re: How to install new WD Sata2 Hard Drive?
Did you turn off the raid. It sounds almost like it is searching for a raid array. Be sure the Raid is Disabled in the bios.

Re: How to install new WD Sata2 Hard Drive?
Hi Thanks,
Yes, I did disable the raid in the bios.It still did not make it bootup. Problem is still there. I disconnected the sata cable of the new 750gb drive from the motherboard 's sata controller. Then booted the system with the old 250gb hard drive. It did boot fine, and let me work with my xp as normal. I then connected new drive 's sata cable back to the motherboard. Then I used Partition Magic, which detected the new 750gb hard drive,to partition and format it,which it did with no problem. So now the new drive is ready. But when I re-booted the system,as before, durning the boot process, the cursor just hang next to the 750gb drive and keeps blinking and would not proceed to the bottem of the screen. I wonder if it has got anything to do with the chip, which may not accept larger hard drives? I did buy 500gb hard drive few months ago and it worked fine without changing anything in the bios. I wanted to have 750gb hard drive so I sold 500gb HD and bought this one.How else can I make it work??????? Thanks |
