New SATA
So I've just installed my first ever SATA HD, along with an IDE card so I can add some of my old IDE HDs. Now, after I installed the drivers the IDE drives work, etc.
The SATA drive, however, is not shown on my drive list, and can't be accessed, though it appears and says its working on my Hardware Manager. |

Re: New SATA
go into disk management and format and windows will then see it
you can change the drive letters in disk management but be aware not to change it to the drive letter of your operateing system drive unless the operateing system is on it

Re: New SATA
Alright, its all set now, thanks.
Don't suppose anyone know a way I can just sorta...move my XP installation from one drive to another, without having to go dig out my CDs and go through that business? Last edited by WJLIII3; 06-17-2008 at 02:30 PM. |

Re: New SATA
There is also another way, But only if your HD manufacture has the tools available to do it.
I know Maxtor and WD both have tools on their website, or in the big box packaging. I also believe Seagate does too. This allows you to copy bit for bit the contents of one drive to another. I just did such a thing last weekend. Moving my XP install from a drive that was starting to fail to a larger HD that I partitioned to put windows in a space of its own and reinstalled my programs and new ones onto the other. Using the manufacturer's tools to do the copy, IMHO is better than a 3rd party application, no offense to the authors of those apps. Just my .05 worth. Mark
