2nd SATA HDD causes windows loading BSOD.
Hi guys
Ive just replaced a faulty 2nd HDD (SATA) in a friends PC and found that it causes a BSOD just after the windows loading logo. If i unplug it and leave it just to load one the original drive it loads into XP fine. This drive is brand new from the shops and i know its not fault because ive had it in my own machine as a slave, however this is a simular problem to what was happening with the original 2nd drive (however i know the original was faulty because i ran a scan using the manufacturers tool and it failed). Ive tried formatting the new drive in another computer and tried fiddeling with all kinds of BIOS settings but still I get attacked with the dredded BSOD. I cant see what the BSOD error is because the PC resets within half a second of the error appearing. I know the PC can take a 2nd hard drive because while waiting for the new drive to arrive we had a temporary IDE drive in there, it just doesnt seem to like having a 2nd SATA drive (as the primary drive is also SATA). Here are the drives: Primary drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200gig SATA 2nd (new) Drive: Hitachi DeskStar P7K500 250gig SATA If it helps the motherboard is a MSI-6741. Thanks Edit: FYI the original (faulty) 2nd drive was also a Seagate Barracude 7200.7 200g (SATA) Edit2: Tried swapping SATA ports/cables around, no difference Last edited by diggory; 06-17-2008 at 08:47 AM. |
