my drive is down

I purchased a travelstar external harddrive. Probably not the best purchase but the best I could do with where I'm at. Any way at first it seemed to work fine everything was going well saving data on it . But then I started having power outages every time it was turned off then back on it took longer to be recognized by my laptop but now it isnt recognizing it at all? I tried connecting it to other computer to no avail. Any Ideas?

Re: my drive is down

Welcome to TSF.

What happens when you connect the drive to a computer?
Try another USB cable.
If possible - take the HDD out of the enclosure and mount it inside a desktop PC.

Re: my drive is down

Heres the thing nothing happens when I plug it into my laptop it doesn't even show up on the device manager. I am deployed I only have my laptop . Like I said I did try to hook it up to a friends laptop but it didn't see it either. One thing to note there is a red/green light in the past if its red it means its running usually when it goes green is when the laptop will see it . it just keeps showing red .

Re: my drive is down

Hi mate,
You still have a warranty for that HDD right???
Go to store and purchase a new one in replace...
I would not recommend you to experiment by yourself with HDD because if you do something wrong you will lose warranty on it...

Re: my drive is down

If the drive has a power source of its own - ask for a replacement AC adapter.
