Defragmenting my maxtor Onetouch4 500GB

I recently purchased a maxtor onetouch4 500GB External hard Drive. Im in the process of defragmenting my Desktop of which the Maxtor is connected with. Is it a good idea to Defrag the maxtor as well after i defrag my destop? Also, how often should I defrag the maxtor.

You can defrag it whenever you want. You just need to defrag the desktop hard drive every once in a while. Most external harddrives do not require defraging.

Thank you very much. i usually defrag my desktop about once a month. the maxtor is in the process of defraging now. Should I cancel it out? or just let it go.....
