[SOLVED] External hard drive not showing in 'mycomputer' section

HELP!!! ... I recently purchased a 3.5 external hard drive enclosure which I then put a 200 GB hard drive from my unused computer into. Whenever I plug the USB lead from the IDE external hard drive into my new computer it does not show up under the ‘mycompter’ section, no icon is present however the hard drive device does show up under “Device manager – USB controllers”. I have done a check which shows that all the drivers are present and ‘up to date’.
This problem is puzzling me. What can be done to get the external hard drive to show up in ‘mycomputer’.
My operating system is windows vista. The jumper for the hard drive has been set to 'master'.

Hi

Open Disk management (Right click "My computer" > choose "Manage" > Disk Management).

Can you see the drive there?
If there's nothing saved on the HDD >> right click it in Disk management, choose "New partition" and follow the wizard to format the drive.
