A question about the Adaptec 52445 RAID controller
Hi everyone,
I've just bought this card to add 10+ SATA HDDs to my existing system, but I can't get the card to recognise the existing drives with my existing data. I'd like to use the drives as they are, ie not part of a RAID array, and according to the Adaptec website, this should be possible: Q: Can drives be used on an Adaptec RAID controller but not be used as part of a RAID array? A: Hard drives attached to an Adaptec RAID controller do not have to be configured as an array member to work properly. The RAID controller will recognize and access single disks. Please refer to your controller documentation for instructions on accessing drives that are not a member of any RAID array. - This could also mean that adding single volumes is fine - as long as they are created by the RAID controller. I'd just like to add an existing single volume which will be recognised by the card - and by Vista x64! The controller is installed correctly, is recognised by windows and functions correctly when I add a new HDD to the array. Does anyone know how to make the controller recognise an existing HDD - and the data it contains, or is that impossible? Thank you. |
