replacing WD with a MAXTOR

I need to replace my hard drive.I bought a maxtor 1TB to replace my WD
do i need a new strip or will the ones that came with the new one work. I have an HP a524x with 80GB hard drive with imminent failure error.how do i change this drive illistrations would help.thanks

just take the wd out and put the maxtor in
check the jumper setting
on the end plug on the cable set as master
on the middle plug set as slave

My mother board does not have a sata connector is there a good adaptor availible .
