[SOLVED] Maxtor 6E040L0 help

I'm running XP Home on a pentium 1.6 dell 4300 dimension with a maxtor 6E040L0 hard drive set at dma mode 5. I did a test and it said that it was running at ata 100--max ata 133. If I purchase a new ata 133--80 pin cable will it run at ata 133?

Welcome to TSF.

I'm afraid not - max. in your computer is ATA-100.

Re: Maxtor 6E040L0 help

Well then, I can stop racking my brain on the matter and just purchase a PCI card that will support ATA 133. Thanks so much.

Re: [SOLVED] Maxtor 6E040L0 help

One more thing please. Would it be worth my while to get a PCI-SATA card and a new SATA hard drive? Am I going to see a huge different in speed and CPU performance? Right now my CPU maxes out frequently. Running max ram, 256DDR video card etc.

thanks

Re: [SOLVED] Maxtor 6E040L0 help

There's not much speed to gain with a PCI-SATA card.
The PCI bus speed is too slow.

There are SATA/IDE combo cards.
This one seems good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816102064

Re: [SOLVED] Maxtor 6E040L0 help

OK sounds like a WHY BOTHER situation thank you.

I remembered that I had a Promise Ultra133 T2X in my older computer, so I installed it on the existing Dell 4300 Dimension XP system. Works like a CHAMP!!!!
