Thumbs Down XP Not Recognize Old HD

My Old Hard Drive crashed after power out damaged sectors.Could not get it to re-boot .So I put in a New HD installed W/XP pro on it runs great,but I set old one as slave to recoop info unfortunatly the Maxtor HD wont recognize on windows.It does show up under Bios and Reboot.How do I recover this HD Information Please?

have you tried looking at at the xp disk manager to see if its up there? you might have to install a 3rd party disk manager to install the hard drive. maxtor is under seagate so i would reccomend you install the disk wizard here. let me know if this helps

Hi

Yes, look in Disk management (Right click "My computer" > choose "Manage" > Disk Management).

I've tried disk Managment it will not show up,but it does come up when I do an F2 Bios setup-comes up as MAXTOR N40P but I still cannot open the drive.Thanks for the suggestion though,any other thoughts?

Check the jumper settings - make sure the "new" drive is master (not CS).

Or - borrow the ribbon cable from the CD drive.

I've checked the settings on Main drive it Set to Master with slave present,old one set to slave.I tried on different jumper but still no go.Intresting when I look it up under BIOS the odl drive show no disc space should be 40gig like new one 160gig does that mean any thing?

It's possible the drive is gone.

See if the drive is detected correctly when you "borrow" the data cable from the CD drive (to make it the only drive on the IDE channel).
