Computer loses power with hard drive installed

I've been building a new computer for my mother and I've run into an issue.

First off, here are some of the components I have installed to get you up to date before I go into the problem...

* Hard Drive: Seagate 500GB Serial ATA HD 7200/32MB/SATA-3G
* MOBO: XFX nForce 680i LT SLI
* Power Supply: CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W

What happens is when the hard drive is plugged in and I press the power button, the power (fans/lights/etc) come on for about 2 seconds and stop. When I remove the hard drive, everything stays permanently. I have another device on the SATA cable (Lite-On DVD burner) that powers just fine - I tested the hard drive with that same connection and had the same problem, so I don't think it's a faulty cable.

I have downloaded SeaTools and will be throwing this drive into my own computer to test out tonight - but I wanted to throw this thread up to get other testing ideas as well (BEYOND the typical "did you make sure all cables are connected properly/try reseating/ etc" which have been checked). Thanks guys :)
