missing hard drive

normally my xp sp3 runs ok,but with no warning i booted up and the slave
hd was not in "my computer" listing..went to "control panel" and it not there either..also went to "device manager" also not there.
also my "diskmgmt.msc" shows just only one "c".
any ideas?

check you can see it in the bios
check the plug has not come loose
try a new 80 wire ide cable
