Re: Hard drive Dissapearing Act...Alakazam!!!
Ok I think I am done here. I installed a Antec TRUEPOWER TRIO 650 Watt P Supply. Cleaned all the dust out while I was in there. As far as I know the problems went down to dang near zero with a few exceptions. As promised I will post the temperature and voltage reading in everest home (free).
About a month later I lost the electricity in the wall that fed the computer. What a coincidence of happening in about the same time period. I wonder if its related to the power supply failure? You know the battery backup was complaining of a building wiring fault too. Its all good now as I do not use that circuit till its fixed right. Last but not least I suspect my IDE hard drives may have slipped out of DMA mode. But that will be in my next post. I really appreciate Your help Thank You

Re: Hard drive Dissapearing Act...Alakazam!!!
Nice PSU.
![]() Bad wiring could, of course, cause a lot of problems - but I'm not so sure it would "kill" a PSU. DMA is enabled by default in Windows XP. If there are problems with the data transfer XP will turn DMA off and run the drive in PIO mode and the user will not be able to enable DMA again. Have a look in Device manager: Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers > Right-click the channel your HDDs are connected to > Properties > Advanced Settings. In the Current Transfer Mode menu > select "DMA if available" (if it's set to PIO only). If the current setting is "DMA if available" > change it to "PIO only" > click OK > change back to "DMA if available" > click OK. http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...e/IDE-DMA.mspx |
