only getting 15MB/s transfer on SATA hard drives
i have a custom built computer that i have been using the last few years, comprised of an ECS RS482-M motherboard, an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ processor, 2GB RAM, 1 300GB SATA/300 Seagate ST3300622AS-RK hard drive with Windows Vista 64 sp1 and installed programs, 1 300GB SATA/150 Seagate ST3300831AS-RK for data.
my problem is that with this setup, i haven't seen a transfer rate between the two hard drives exceeding 15MB/s...far lower than the 150MB/s maximum. sadly, the motherboard manual doesn't give nearly enough information for me to ensure that i have everything setup correctly. in the BIOS, i have both hard drives set to IDE mode, which is the only way i could get the motherboard to detect and initialize them. when trying to configure a raid setup, i get an error stating that no raid devices can be found. i only have the ATI display drivers installed automatically by Windows Update, every time i try to install the full driver package from ATI's website i get an error relating to the southbridge drivers and a missing .inf file. after some research i am fairly sure this could have something to do with the problem, but i haven't been able to get the driver to install properly since ATI first released 64-bit drivers for my video card. despite this failing during install, i have no errors or issues reported in Device Manager, let alone a device missing drivers. at this point i'm stuck and no longer no where to go, any advice would be greatly appreciated. thankyou, scott |

Re: only getting 15MB/s transfer on SATA hard drives
Hello Scott
![]() first off you should not be running 64bit Windows ATI drivers / when you are using a 32bit Windows XP operating system ? I would try uninstalling the drivers you have thru the add remove / programs found in the control panel / then download and install the correct windows xp 32 bit drivers for your video card next you need to go to your motherboards webpage / then downloads / then look for your motherboard model number / download and install the chipset drivers ( thats an .inf package) for your motherboard BTW: you will NEVER see 150mbs transfer rates "no matter what you do!!) thats a purely BULL crap number >>>>> the best transfer rate you will see out of an internal sata drive / stand alone = 70 something mb/s raid is combining two or more drives to act as one / such a set-up will be faster than the 70 something rate but not any single solo drive >>>> hell; I have spent a small fortune on the fastest of single SCSI drives and best of SCSI controllers to get 80mb/s transfer capability from a standalone hard drive....... therefore you can FORGET about that fictious 150 mb/s number >>>>>>> let us know if you need assistance with these tasks best regards joe
