disk defrag interrupted - files/ folders unreadable

Hi. I was defragmenting my HD when I accidentally pushed ctl+alt+del.

This caused my computer to reboot in the middle of operation.

I cannot boot from the HD now and when I boot from a cd all the files are
in symbols and don't make any sense. They look like they are in the same places with similar sizes but all the text is missing and replaced by wierd symbols. I started useing dskchk but I don't want to loose my whole drive.

Thanks

G

you will need a second hard drive to send your recovered files to and Getdataback

Re: disk defrag interrupted - files/ folders unreadable

Isn't there any program that can be run from a bootable disk to rearrange and reorganize the existing files?

Re: disk defrag interrupted - files/ folders unreadable

not that I have ever heard of ?????

at this point you will need a data recovery program and a place to hold the restored files

most likely you will need to install an operating system on the new hard drive; then install the recovery software into the new OS drive

then recover the data from the old drive into a folder on the new drive

once your recovery has been completed, then zero fill (wipe and erase) the drive with killdisk or dariks boot n nuke >>>> then repartition the drive and reformat then you will be able to use your old drive for a slave drive

the hopes of any kind of quick & easy recovery are dim >>>>>>
