XP install problem

I am trying to install a SATA drive into an older computer. The SATA drive is connected via USB. I boot from a Windows XP cd and it loads all the necessary drivers but the as soon as it begins xp install the screen goes black and shows a flashing cursor. I have tried a SATA IDE converter also but the HD is not deteceted at boot (probably because drivers need to be installed first which I cant do untill the system is up and running)
Any ideas out there please?

Re: XP install problem

With the SATA drive connected to the IDE converter boot with the XP CD and at some point it will ask (bottom of the screen) if you need to load drivers ,F6. Put the drivers for the converter on a floppy disk and press F6 to load.

Re: XP install problem

You can try this, as XP on its own does not allow anything but a floppy.
