WD External HardDrive need help

I have 320G WD external hardrive which I brought a couples of weeks, I transfer all of my files from my laptop. My kids played for the WD external hardisk adaptor and accidentally replaced with a desktop speaker adaptor, suddenly I smell a roasting circuit board….

I tried to check the Harddrive by pulling the hardisk and used as 2.0 USD SATA IDE and it wont work. I think the harddrive itself has a problem.

How can I recover that files if the problem is the Hardrive itself. Can someone help me.

Re: WD External HardDrive need help

Welcome to TSF.

If the HDD got zapped, data recovery will be expensive.
What happens when you connect it without using the enclosure?

It would be best to hook the drive up inside a desktop PC.

Re: WD External HardDrive need help

does the use of SATA IDe is the same as in the PC?
I bought sata IDE in ebay to check if the problem is the circuit board that
but still not working. I suspect the hardisk itself.

Is there any way to recover my file?

Re: WD External HardDrive need help

You should try connecting the hard drive without an adapter first.
What computer do you have?
Any SATA ports inside - or is it a laptop?

There's almost always a way to recover files from a HDD - but if the computer won't detect the drive it will be VERY expensive.

Re: WD External HardDrive need help

It sounds like you have to contact a data recovery company, I'm afraid.
