Re: build a external hard drive enclosure?

musicistabest,

You'd need a power supply compatible with the drives you are using a well as external/internal connectors compatible with the drive types you're using (i.e. SATA, EIDE or SCSI).

I guess I'm curious as to WHY you'd want to build your own when you can purchase external enclosures with drive bays, power supplies and internal/external connectors.

Check out:

Hope this helps.

Re: build a external hard drive enclosure?

I have to agree with teammate johnhook, taking into account how complex they are and how inexpensive they are, why bother. I own four of these i rocks enclosures and they are great, I haven't had any problems with them at all. Mike

Re: build a external hard drive enclosure?

My situation is this.....I have an old PC with 2 hard drives in it. The machine itself is going away, but I want to keep the two hard drives. All the components are there to make my own hard drive enclosure, so how hard can it really be to make it happen? Why waste all the components that I already have in favor of a new box?

I'm not being argumentative....I sincerely want to know. I'm a DIY kinda guy.
