Adding 2nd hard drive

I have a Samsung hard drive as my master and a maxtor as my slave. What is cable select? Samsung jumpers are set to master and cable select.
Maxtor is set to slave.
Do I need to change the settings on the Samsung?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Adding 2nd hard drive

'Cable select' allows the drive to assume the proper role of master or slave based on the connector used on the cable.

If there are two devices connected on one ATA cable, both devices must use either the Cable Select or Master/Slave settings.

I recommend using the Master/Slave settings (personal preference).

Regards

Re: Adding 2nd hard drive

Either will work for you as suggested by kilaJules. I too like the Master/Slave configuration. Just make sure you have the Master on the END of the ribbon cable. The master setting is best with the drive that has the OS on it.
