Re: hard drive not there?
Hi
![]() You have to explain... What motherboard and what HDD? You probably have to load drivers for the SATA controller during XP install. The driver should be on a floppy - early in the installation process, press F6. If you don't have a floppy drive you have to make a slipstreamed XP disc with the driver included. Or - easier, if there's an option in BIOS to set SATA to IDE mode - do that. Last edited by eneles : 04-25-2008 at 04:07 PM. |

Re: hard drive not there?
Please try to put your posts in sentences.
Find the SATA controller driver at the motherboard manufacturer's website. Without that driver you won't be able to install XP. |

Re: hard drive not there?
Doh! - I forgot.
![]() Do you remember what's inside the "bad" computer? Or - what brand/model? Otherwise you'll have to open the case and have a look. The motherboard name/code is usually printed somewhere near the PCI slots. |

Re: hard drive not there?
Sounds like it's an ABIT board (nf7).
![]() See if you can find an online manual - check if you can change the SATA options in BIOS. It's getting late (or early) here, 2:30 AM, have to go to bed. Will be back later. |

Re: hard drive not there?
Do NOT flash the BIOS unless you're absolutely sure what model/revision the motherboard is.
Have a look at the boards here: http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/downl...SEARCHTEXT=nf7 IMHO, it would be better to create a slipstreamed XP disc with SATA drivers. |

Re: hard drive not there?
Please download HWINFO for DOS: http://www.hwinfo.com/
Put the (unzipped) program on a bootable floppy or CD - boot the computer and run HWINFO. |

Re: hard drive not there?
The program should tell you what mobo, CPU etc you have.
Better to have all Q's & A's in the forum - so others can help (and be helped if they have a similar problem). ![]() |
