OK.
Test the HDD in a known good computer.
We need the motherboard brand/model so we can download a manual.

Re: Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed (Different from [CLOSED] th

Motherboard: ASUS- NVidia nForce2 Series
PSU: POWERUP, Switching Power Supply, Model: LC-B350ATX
Hard Drive that won't work: Western Digital Caviar 60GB, Model: WD600AB-60BVA0.

Do you need other specs? Removing Jumper now.

Re: Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed (Different from [CLOSED] th

Afraid so - we need the precise motherboard model.
But, it's more important to test the "bad" drive with a computer known to be OK.

If the computer won't boot with the 60GB HDD - switch to the other HDD.

Then:
Download the " TSFdemo1" file, unpack and run it.

In "Tech Support Forum Hardware Reader" >> click "Copy to clipboard" >> paste the info in your post.

Re: Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed (Different from [CLOSED] th

I've found the manual.
But, the 60GB has to be tested with another computer, so we're not wasting time on a (possibly) dead HDD.

Re: Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed (Different from [CLOSED] th

The good HD can only boot into XP using Safe Mode now. When I try to use regular mode it keeps restarting without getting into Windows. It worked yesterday. Any ideas?

Sounds like it's a power problem.

What power supply do you have? How old is it?

See if there's another (better) PSU you can borrow.

Do you have two video cards?
If so, remove one of them.

I put a jumper back into the Master spot on the HD and now it boots in Regular Mode.

Re: Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed (Different from [CLOSED] th

That's the 30GB?

Have a look at this: http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc....i=&p_topview=1

Configure the WD as single master and connect it as the only drive on the cable.

I can only put the 30GB on the cable because if I put the 60GB the computer won't boot.

Did you connect the 60GB as the only drive without a jumper?
Try different 4-pin power plugs with the HDD.
