Hi everyone,
As it says in the title my IDE HDDs not detected on SATA mobo using IDE/SATA converters. Have tried every possible jumper combo (both set to master, CS -EVERYTHING!) but no joy. I have heard that I may need SATA drivers for the mobo? This mobo is brand new ASUS P5K and did not come with a driver floppy, just the chipset support CD and Vista driver CD. There is only one IDE port which is being used by my DVDROMs (both detected). Please help! I am lost and don't know what to try next! My Hardware: ASUS P5K mobo Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad CPU Primary HD: Western Digital HDD (o/s) WD2000 200G Secondary Storage HD: Maxtor Diamond 10 160G Thanks so much for any assistance! U.J |

Re: IDE HDDs not detected on SATA mobo! Using IDE/SATA converter HELP!
Welcome to TSF.
![]() Are the drives detected in BIOS? What adapter are you using? Enter BIOS > Main > SATA configuration > configure SATA as "IDE". Why not use the "PRI_EIDE" connector on the board? |

sounds like he has two IDE drives he wants to use >>>>> and already has one DVD rom drive attached to the Pri-Eide connector ????
I would say, make sure you install the motherboard chipset drivers off the motherboard CD (they are a .inf file) keep us posted BTW: also try the drives with no jumper on / sata doesnt need jumpers be patient; your approach will work, this has been done MANY times before what kind of drive is your boot drive ???????

Re: IDE HDDs not detected on SATA mobo! Using IDE/SATA converter HELP!
Thanks for the repiles guys!
I have (thanks to your advice in removing all jumpers!) managed to connect my o/s HD and it is up and running smoothly! My secondary storage drive however is determined not to play ball. Have tried every jumper configuration I can dream up as well as no jumper at all and still no love! The HD is a Maxtor Diamond 10 variety. So just to clarify, Jumpers make no difference when connecting to SATA ports? If thats the case, What would be the next step? The HD is tested and working perfectly, the converter is tested and working perfectly (on the same system) the power supply is fine too as the LED lights up.... The drive spins but motherboard just won't pick it up! Thanks again for your invaluable assistance! U.J p.s yes, the one existing IDE port is being used by my DVD ROMS! Re: IDE HDDs not detected on SATA mobo! Using IDE/SATA converter HELP!
You probably have the wrong converter device. Some shops say that the converter is reversible - i.e. that it can be plugged into an IDE hard drive OR plugged into an IDE port on the motherboard. In my experience this is NOT true. And the manufacturer info on this is also confusing. There is a separate converter for each setup. It may be that some manufacturers produce a converter that can auto detect or have jumpers for the difference, but I have not run across any.
I hope this helps. James Last edited by James Kennedy; 09-27-2008 at 09:40 PM. |
