137 gig limit on Windows XP Western Digital Drive
Have installed a Western Digital 160 gig drive on a Dell Dimension 3100 computer that had a drive that failed. Its been awhile since I've done this and I do remember that there was a problem with the computer recognizing more than 137 gigs. In BIOS the entire 160 gigs is recognized. I have Service pack 1 and 2 both installed. If I remember that was a necessary component to be able to read over 137 gigs.
If someone could help me by refreshing my mind on what to do so that I can get the full 160 gig to be recognized, I would sure appreciate it. Thanks in advance for all your help and suggestions. |

Re: 137 gig limit on Windows XP Western Digital Drive
Did you install XP on the drive first with out any service packs? If so then XP setup the drive at 137GBs. Check disk management to see if any unallocated space exists on the drive.
