Backup options? Suggestions?
Ok, Im looking to setup a backup system for an XP pc that I am building.
Due to the nature and location of this new system. I have some fairly strict requirments and Im looking for sugestions for software that might fit. First is automation. I need it to watch a predefined set of folders for new data and changes to old data. After more than say 1 DVD-Rs worth of changes/new stuff shows up I need it to check the DVD-R drive for a blank disk and start writing. Then Eject the DVD-R to let somone know they need to replace it with a new blank disc. I need it to do all of this with out human intervention. Also important is that the software needs to backup in such a way that it can be restored without needing to be present. Example: After a crash I could take the entier spindle of discs its kicked out so far and copy them to a new PC from oldest to newest, indicating "yes to all" for any overwites, and I would end up with a duplicate of the data at the time of the last backup, updates and all. All this without installing any software including the orignal backup software. Any thoughts? Additional features dont hurt but the above are pretty much required. As mentioned above the backup device is probably going to be a DVD-RW drive with DVD-R media. But if you can sugest better I am willing look into it. |
