Just a question =)

My old computer became disfunctional and we had to replace it. It was XP, now we have Vista. I'd like to retrieve some files on my old drive, and I removed it already from the old computer. (The hardrive is a Barracuda 7200.7 - 160 GB) My new computer is an Acer 5100. Is my old hardrive configured for my new computer? I don't have the hardrive manual. I'd like to just insert the old drive, copy the files to a USB key, remove the old drive then put the new one back in its place. Is there any risk in doing so?

Re: Just a question =)

no risk, but it won't work because by doing so you are trying to boot a version of windows thats never seen the new hardware your new computer has. You need to hook it up as a slave. Then it will automatically be recognized, and you can do as you please with the files. Hope your cable has two connections, or you will need to get one! The connections at the ends are the Master and system board connections, the middle is where you would plug your old HD into.
