fixboot
I had a similar problem but I know what happened on my pc. Im writing from it now but Im worried if it crashed I wouldnt be able to use it again. I installed xp on my hd and later I bought a 3870x2
but my power supply sucks so I started unplugging things to see if it would possibly work. After I unplugged my extra storage hd my conputer came up with "Error loading os" After this I cheked the mbr's of the disks in data lifegaurd and it shows my xp hd as nonbootable and my storage as bootable and I have to put my storage as the first drive for xp to boot. I would like to know if I could fix my mbr on my xp drive so I dont need my storage drive.

Re: fixboot
Starting the Windows Recovery Console
To start the Windows Recovery Console, use one of the following methods: • Use the Windows Setup floppy disks or the Windows CD-ROM to start your computer. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press F10 or press 'R" to repair. |

Re: fixboot
As long as you log onto D:\ in windows recovery and do the fixmbrs...then go into disk management and change your windows drive to C:\
that should work. maybe change your "storage" drive to an extended partition in disk management, bet its a primary drive right now |

Re: fixboot
Start the computer with the Windows CD.
At the Welcome to Setup screen, press R to select the repair option. You will have to enter the Administrator password - if none, just press <Enter>. The Windows installation will be detected - usually called "1" >> select that. In the recovery console - type bootcfg /rebuild > press <Enter>. The drive will be scanned and you will be asked to: Add installation to boot list? Press Y. Next prompt: Enter Load Identifier: > type Windows XP > press <Enter>. Another prompt: Enter OS Load options: > type /fastdetect > press <Enter>. Take the Windows disc out. Type Exit > press <Enter>. |
