Re: 750 GB, RAW after reinstall of XP
Don't use TD - something very wrong there, since the file system is NTFS - not FAT.
You have to pay to unlock GDB - then copy your files to another drive. Then - format the drive. Scan all recovered files with anti-virus before you use them. Last edited by Deleted090308; 04-13-2008 at 07:50 AM. |

Re: 750 GB, RAW after reinstall of XP
TD reports the file system as FAT - that has to be changed to NTFS.
Such procedures involve a risk of irreparable data loss. Better to secure the data with GDB first - then we can try TD. |

Re: 750 GB, RAW after reinstall of XP
Perhaps you could burn some of the files to DVDs???
When you're sure you've saved all the files you want: A. At the first window, select No Log and press the <Enter> key. B. Select which drive to analyse, choose Proceed and <Enter>. C. Select partition type Intel if its a PC then <Enter>. D. Select Advanced then <Enter>. The drive will be analysed. E. Select the partition and choose "Type", then <Enter>. F. Just a list of file systems, press <Enter>. G. Type "07", press <Enter>. H. Choose "Boot", <Enter>. I. Select "Rebuild BS", <Enter>. J. Choose "List". <Enter>. K. Can you see your files? Do they look "normal"? If so, choose "Write", <Enter>. Restart the computer. Last edited by Deleted090308; 04-13-2008 at 01:57 PM. |

Re: 750 GB, RAW after reinstall of XP
I got all the files that i wanted.
Then ran TestDisk, did what you told and now it works! All the files are there too. But something wired! All some of the files i cant delete, it says "It's not possible to open [filename]. It could be damaged, or cannot be read." I now have a folder named "46aaec73dc5ab268aadf101fd9363e" Inside that: "i386" (i cant open it i need rights) What is this? Re: 750 GB, RAW after reinstall of XP
Good news!
![]() You may have to take ownership of the file/folder. How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP. Please remember to scan the drive with your anti-virus program. |

Re: 750 GB, RAW after reinstall of XP
Great!
The i386 folder contains installation files for a program - (or Windows when located on the system drive - mostly C:). How many bytes does the folder contain? Or - were you able to delete the directory after chkdsk? |

Re: 750 GB, RAW after reinstall of XP
The i386, folder worked with both "Ownership" & "CHKDSK".
The other files, i only needed "CHKDSK". So its all fine :) Just from now on, i will allways disconnect the External Harddrive, when i install Windows. |
