Choose "List" >>> if you can see your folders/files >>> choose "Write".

Re: Hard Disk Failure, testdisk not working?
ok, i chose list but all it gave me where two lines. Clicking enter or right arrow didn't open up any other files. So the file/folders didn't show up.
In GetDataBack, all the original folder/file structure was preserved, so i know they're in there somewhere! thanks PS: Just BTW, when i clicked on Repair MFT now, it says "MFT and MFT mirror matches perfectly" Last edited by timmy393; 04-09-2008 at 05:02 PM. |

Re: Hard Disk Failure, testdisk not working?
To be honest - I don't think TD can fix this (after trying all those changes).
Now that your files are safe on another HDD - wipe this "bad" drive with DBAN. Burn the DBAN ISO image and boot the computer from the CD, Disconnect any other hard drive (data + power cable) before using DBAN - it's easy to make mistakes and wipe the wrong drive. It will take a LONG time to wipe the drive with DBAN (up to 40 hours). If you don't have the patience - just format it in Disk management. Last edited by Deleted090308; 04-09-2008 at 05:16 PM. |

Re: Hard Disk Failure, testdisk not working?
ok i guess i'll go for the format option with disk management.
The HDD's just for external data storage, so i'm not sure why i need to boot the computer from a CD. Thanks anyway for saving my neck, without your advice about getdataback i wouldn't have known how to get the data out of that hard drive. I'll just try to format it in disk management and hope it works afterwards Thanks again! *EDIT: I think you think the HD has my OS on it? It doesn't, its just an external HD with data on it. Does that change anything? Last edited by timmy393; 04-09-2008 at 05:41 PM. |

Re: Hard Disk Failure, testdisk not working?
I knew it's an external with "only" data on it.
![]() Don't choose quick format in Disk management. Run chkdsk /r to look for bad sectors on the drive: Right click the drive in "My computer" >> Properties >> Tools >> Check now. Tick both options and click "Start":
