Hard drive not working

I have a small 2.5" portable hard drive, the hard drive is a Hitachi HTS541612J9ATOO ATA/IDE model. My laptop suddenly does not recognise it even though the power light comes on, on the drive, have tried a different cable and hard drive but still does not work. I really need the information that is on the hard drive and would be grateful of some help.
Many Thanks

Re: Hard drive not working

Managed to remove the hard drive from the case, all pins looked OK, gave it a wee tap and it eventually worked. Have managed to back up everything, learnt a lesson today regarding backing up, nearly lost 4 yrs work.
