[SOLVED] Home made external hard disk problem!

hi every one hows are you all?

well i have a small problem with my newly made external hard drive.

i bought a IDE caddy from icy box it's great. and used my old hard disk from my broken laptop. it's a 20gb hd but when i pluged it in to my laptop it only shows 5 gb!

i've cleaned it up formated it every thing i can think of but still only 5 gb!!!

how can i get it to realize it's a 20gb not a 5 gb hard drive!!

when it was in my old laptop it was brill no problems what so ever i can't plug it the old laptop as the mobo decided that enough was enough and went to the internet in the sky.
and my new one is sata drive.

so there is the problem can you help?

Re: Home made external hard disk problem!

Hi, welcome to TSF.

5GB? That's a strange limitation...
Is that what BIOS says?

Please post back with the brands/models of the caddy and HDD.

Re: Home made external hard disk problem!

Thanks.
What's the brand/model of the new laptop?

Open Disk management in Windows with the external drive connected to the computer.
(Right click "My computer" > choose "Manage" > Disk Management)

Please post a screenshot of Disk management.

How to post a screenshot.

Re: Home made external hard disk problem!

If you can see 20GB in Disk management > then you have done something wrong when the drive was formatted.

How to use Disk Management to configure basic disks in Windows XP.
