[SOLVED] Home made external hard disk problem!
hi every one hows are you all?
well i have a small problem with my newly made external hard drive. i bought a IDE caddy from icy box it's great. and used my old hard disk from my broken laptop. it's a 20gb hd but when i pluged it in to my laptop it only shows 5 gb! i've cleaned it up formated it every thing i can think of but still only 5 gb!!! how can i get it to realize it's a 20gb not a 5 gb hard drive!! when it was in my old laptop it was brill no problems what so ever i can't plug it the old laptop as the mobo decided that enough was enough and went to the internet in the sky. and my new one is sata drive. so there is the problem can you help? |

hi,
the hd is IBM travelstar model ic25n020atcs04-0 (i thought it was seagate but that was another one i had sorry) the caddy is from icy box but the model is ib-220u-wh as for the bios i'm don't know how to do that sorry. i know a bit about computers but not that much. hope this helps Last edited by Tommo247; 03-21-2008 at 03:20 PM. |

What's the brand/model of the new laptop? Open Disk management in Windows with the external drive connected to the computer. (Right click "My computer" > choose "Manage" > Disk Management) Please post a screenshot of Disk management. How to post a screenshot. |

If you can see 20GB in Disk management > then you have done something wrong when the drive was formatted.
