Maxtor Hard Drive Problem
My old computer recently died on me ( I sent it to a computer repair place and they said that the motherboard was the problem . Anyways, I bought a DELL computer Intel Pentium 4 with Windows XP service pack 2. I wanted to transfer the hard drive from the old computer to the new one. My old hard drive is a 100 GB Maxtor Diamondmax 10 model 6B100P0 PATA133 HDD. so I removed the IDE cable and the power cable from the hard drive that came with the dell and plugged in my Maxtor. When I started the computer and went into BIOS , it recognized my old hard drive but I would continually get the( Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause ) sort of error and it just keeps restarting. Did I need to do something with regards to the BIOS and my old hard drive. When I received the error , I tried to remove the IDE and power cables from the DVD drive and floppy but I still got the error. Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Maxtor Hard Drive Problem
Hi, welcome to TSF.
![]() You can't start the "old" XP installation in a new computer. The reason is that your old XP has the wrong set of drivers installed. Put the new HDD back as a master drive with the old HDD as slave. |
