HD bios problem?

Hi guys im having some trouble here. basically im building my friend a computer from old parts that i had laying around. The hard drive is an hitachi and currently has xp installed on it. What happens is it doesnt show up in Bios and wont boot. It keeps saying searching for optical drive. My cd rom shows up as the ide master but not the HD. not sure what to do. the motherboard is a DFI lanparty nf4 ultra d.

Re: HD bios problem?

are you connected the hitachi drive to the same cable as the optical drive ?

the hard drive should be on the primary (blue) IDE connector of the motherboard

the rom drive should be on the secondary ide channel which is usally black

please verify and post back ???

Re: HD bios problem?

go to the hitachi website and download their hard drive diagnostic utility (free) from the support section

make sure you run both short and extended tests on the drive, if the diag doesnt see the drive in the one your working on, then move the drive to a working computer and run the test

post back with results
