Re: WD 500GB Portable Hard Drive: Issue with device recognition
I have a similar problem that just reared its ugly head yesterday. I installed Diskeeper and when I tried to defrag my 250gb external HD, it told me that there were errors and that CHKDSK was supposed to run the next time the computer booted. So a few hours later I rebooted and it ran CHKDSK on my 80gb internal HD instead. (taking a whopping nearly 2 hours I might add) When my laptop finally finished booting, my external HD didn't show up. Hmm, not a big problem I told myself and I disconnected the USB plug and reconnected it but instead of my OS picking up my HD, it just started doing this loud, annoying clicking noise instead. Now I can't get my computer to recognize the HD at all, no matter what I do. I'd really hate to think that my nearly 200 gig of data on it is lost. Any clues or ideas?
