Question Annoying HD issues

I am running XP with several HD's and most are full. Once I am inside any HD that is 1/5 full I have trouble staying in the HD because it usually comes up with an error message stating "not responsive" and I have to close out in task manager and get into it again. This is happening with all HD's on IDE, SATA, and even an external USB. So I don't think it is HD but rather an XP setting for the drive. ANy suggestions would be great because this annoying.

Also, all drives have been defragged.

Re: Annoying HD issues

Hi, welcome to TSF.

Disable System restore for all drives - except the drive where XP is installed.

How much RAM do you have installed?

Re: Annoying HD issues

I have 3g of ram. Thanks for the input I turned off the back up on all drives except for the drives with my operating systems (dual boot). I didn't realize that these drives even contained a restore point.

Re: Annoying HD issues

That should be enough.

Did you disable System restore (and hibernation)?

How many HDD's do you have - and how are they connected to the computer/motherboard?

Re: Annoying HD issues

See if there's an updated chipset driver.

What motherboard?

Grin Re: Annoying HD issues

I will check for the updates on the drivers. I haven't noticed anymore disconnects since the recommended changes. Thank you very much.
