Well i just got this seagate baracuda 7200.9 200gb sata drive, if i try starting my pc with it plugged in, my computer doesnt get past the logo screen (the screen with the commands on, eg "press 'Del' for blablabla").
So then i try pluggin it in while im logged in to windows, then the pc just freezes. I have sata drivers etc installed in xp. I dont know if i have to install them in bios. ive tried unpluggin my IDE drive completely, while leaving the sata in on its own, but still no luck Please hope someone can help Thanks Last edited by T23GUY; 03-18-2008 at 03:51 PM. |

Re: Please Guys Help Sata Problems
First of all DO NOT plug the drive in while the computer is running unless you like replacing hardware that was not broken before you did this. That is a dangerous operation and can cause things to burn up.
Second, when you say you have sata drivers installed in XP, what exactly do you mean by that. Questions: Have you enabled Sata in the bios? Did you slipstream the Sata drivers on an OS disk? When you were ready to install windows, did you download the Sata drivers on a floppy for the F6 prompt? Does the drive have anything on it? Has it been formatted before? We need to know what motherboard. Does your board support Sata1 only or Sata2? Is your new drive a Sata2 drive or a Sata1 drive? These things should assist us to know more about your situation. Post back and let us look at these issues.

Re: Please Guys Help Sata Problems
Download Seatools from Seagate on to a floppy and see if you can get that utility to recognize it. Don't forget to have your floppy in the boot order when you do this. If the utility doesn't recognize it, you may have a bad drive. BTW, in the bios, do you have Sata set to operate as IDE?
Note: Enter the Bios In the Advanced area (or integrated peripherals area Sata Controller Mode (remember, some boards have different things, so it will be only something like this) Set this area to "IDE mode" for now. Save and exit
