Chripping sound from harddisk
I have a seagate barracudda 80GB hdd ,now it is producing a somwat loud sound at startup , to tell the truth it sounded as if some bike is accelerating . I formated and defragmented the drive the sound has now reduced . i tested my hard disk with SeaTools for windows and the result i got was as follows.
short drive self test : passed long drive self test : failed short generic : passed long generic : passed Can anybody tell me whether I am at risk. Is my hardisk nearing the end of its life? Please Help |

Hi kallips, I would download Seatools for DOS, there are two formats, one for bootable floppy or an iso file for bootable cd, repeat the long test again in DOS. If you get the same result, back up the drive as soon as possible and look for a replacement. Mike
