Ide

Hello,

I just have a quick question....i have a new mobo on the way and it only has one IDE port on it but i have a burner and a harddrive that are both IDE. Now i know i can use them both but i am not sure what should be the master and what should be the slave and do i just change the jumper on each to set them.....

thanks

Re: Ide

Hi, welcome to TSF.

If your computer looks like most computers, the CD burner is placed at the top.
Therefore it's most convenient to make that master and connect it at the end of the ribbon cable - the HDD being slave at the middle of the cable.
Change the jumpers at the back of the drives - nothing else needed.
The slowest interface (CD) will determine the speed and slow the HDD down.
