hard drive help

I purchased a used laptop on eBay and I'm having a problem with the hard drive. The laptop was purchased "as is" so the seller said he cant help because he doesn't even know how to fix it himself.

The hard drive seems to be password protected. When I start up the laptop I get a DOS prompt to enter a password for the hard drive. I don't know the password, and like I said before, the seller whom i bought it from said that he doesn't know what the password is.

I'm asking for any help to somehow get around this. I need to use the laptop and can't do so because of this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
