80gb shows up as 31gb

pulled an 80gb from an old machine, plugged it up and it shows it as 31gb?? how is that possible..it sais 80gb on the front of it.

Hi.

Probably incorrect jumper settings.
What brand/model is the drive?

Seagate jumper settings (no. 4 from the top limits the drive's capacity):

This could happen, specially in hitachi drives. Then have that 32gig limit jumper setting.
