Re: Maxtor Basic "code 10"

Can you see your files on the drive?

If so, and if the data is important to you - move the files to another hard drive or burn them to CD or DVD.

Re: Maxtor Basic "code 10"

it asked me to put a letter on the drive and after I scanned them none of the files on that came up after the scan were from the hard drive and the size it said the drive was, was wrong. I called Maxtor and they kept telling me it was a driver problem and that I need to call Dell. Called Dell and they said wasn't their problem. Tried it on 2 other computers in the house and got the same problem. Call Maxtor back to explain that it isn't just my computer that the problem shows up on, and of course couldn't make them understand that. Plus I could hardly understand the person and it seems they are just reading from a script. When I do a test on the drive it says it is working properly. It just won't start and get the yello ! in the usb port. If my hair wasn't so short I would be pulling it out!!! I will buy a new drive but really would like the info on the old one. Any suggestions on a new one??

Re: Maxtor Basic "code 10"

Because of my jumper settings, could that be why the drive size was only 80 instead of 320?? I think the setting are set to cable of something like that. Should I have switched them to slave or one of the other ones?

Re: Maxtor Basic "code 10"

It shouldn't matter if the drive is alone on the ribbon cable.
But - try master.

What does BIOS and Disk management say about the drive size?

Please post a screenshot of disk management.

How to post a screenshot.

Re: Maxtor Basic "code 10"

That shouldn't be the issue in testing it- the drive is no longer on the USB. What you want is that same utility, but under 'disk management'.
