trying to install a primary slave

i am trying to fit a second HD as the primary slave. have configered the jumpers. using the same cable as the master using the middle plug. running win 2k on an SIS motherboard. 2 cd's on the other cable. when i plug in the second HD cannot boot up the bios dose not detect the primary HD (bios upgrade 2003) any ideas

Double check and make sure the primary master and slave jumpers are set right as well as the secondary master and slave jumpers for the CD-ROM drives...

Hi,

Go back and look at the setting for the primary drive on this IDE channel. Most hard drives come from the manufacturer as Cable Select....and it might just be that the master drive you are using is set to CS. You can not run a CS on the same cable as a Master or a Slave. They must be Master and Slave, OR both drives set as Cable Select. I recommend the Master and Slave setting. Give this a try.
