Re: Is there a solution
What type of drive is it. IDE,SATA? If it is IDE (Uses wide ribbon cable) it won't need drivers. Usually the only difference in OEM and retail is packaging and maybe warrantee.
That error usually means that the jumpers on the drive are not correct. You don't say how you are using it. Please let us know what kind of drive it is and is it a second drive? Are you trying to load an Operating system on it?

Re: Is there a solution
Sorry about the short post, wasn't thinking.
Here's a list of what I've done, specs. I had to purchase a Controller Card because my motherboard only has 1 IDE slot. So I have the Hard Drive hooked up to the Motherboard, and a DVD drive hooked up to the Controller. Boot sequence - HDD primary, SATA CD-ROM Secondary (Only SATA is in there, is that fine? It still boots from CD..), Third boot is disabled. I had tried the CD-ROM primary and HDD secondary, it doesnt change anything. What happens is it starts up the windows setup, and gets to the point where it says "Windows is starting up"..Then a Blue Screen with the STOP 0x0000007b Error. It is a newly built PC that I put together. 500w Earthwatt PSU LG 775 Intel Socket Mobo 775 Socket Intel Duo Core 2 PSU 3ghz 2 gb corsair DDR2 RAm Radeon 2400 HD PCI-E Vid Card 320gb WD IDE HDD |

Re: Is there a solution
If the CD-ROM is SATA then Master/slave doen't mean anything. The hard drive should be set to Master. What connects to the controller card? With one IDE connector you can run an IDE HDD and an IDE CD-ROM.

Re: Is there a solution
Are you using an 80 wire cable and have you connected the blue connector to the motherboard and the black connector (on the end of the cable) to the HDD?

Re: Is there a solution
Yes and Yes. The cable came withthe mobo and has a "Board" tag, which is a blue end, a "SlavE" end, black, and a "Master" end, which is black. Master is in HDD and Board is in motherboard.

Re: Is there a solution
What model controller card and CD-rom? Does the controller card require a driver?
You might connect the cd-rom temperarily to the IDE cable, load Windows, then connect the CD-rom to the controller card.

Re: Is there a solution
Okay based on the controller the CD-ROM is not SATA (you have it connected to the Controller card). It should be jumpered to Master or single drive and placed at the end of the cable. The HD (connected to the motherboard) should also be jumpered for single drive (no jumper) and be at the end of the cable. No drivers are required for XP according to the manufactures web site.

Re: Is there a solution
What WinXP needs is the drivers for the PCI-to-IDE Controller.
After that, the normal IDE device jumper rules apply (1st device set Master, 2nd set Slave) to each connection. We're talking about the jumper on the drive. Are you sure the controller box didn't have a driver CD? Just in case, Koutech Driver Download page. Just enter the model PIR133 then [GO] to get the driver download list.

Re: Is there a solution
Can i burn the drivers to a cd, and have the new computer read the CD? I can't even get windosw on the computer at the moment, so getting to a website is kinda out of the question.

Re: Is there a solution
I rechecked the Koutech web site an I got the the cards mixed up. This card does need drivers. It is a RAID card. There should be a CD with it. On the Koutech site there are some frequently asked questions that address installation and drivers. It may be that the system stops during installation because it has preliminary drivers during copy to the HDD but when control is transfer to the HDD to complete the install it can't find the drivers for the controller card and stops.
http://www.koutech.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=105 Check at bottom for FAQs Edit: If you don't have a floppy, I still say it would be easier to install Windows with both drives (HDD and CD-ROM) connected to the motherboard. Since your cable isn't long enough, just let the CD-ROM be out of the case. Then you can load the controller drivers (either from the intenet or a CD) and then reconnect the CD-ROM.
