Re: Is there a solution

Okay, an update.

Windows is now loaded! Woohoo!..

One quick question, do you know if my motherboard has a built-in network card? I read it does, but I cannot get my connection to show up..

Re: Is there a solution

Ok, nevermind. I got the internet workign (Forgot to install mobo drivers, haha)

But now, i installed the raid controllers drivers...

Put the parts back in, Motherboard -> Hard drive (blue in mobo, master in hard drive)

Controller -> CD-ROM (Blue in Controller, Master in CD-ROM)

And now I get "DISK BOOT FAILURE".

I May have had the cd-drive and hard drive in the wrong order when i installed windows, could this cause it? (I had the harddrive in slave, CD-Drive in master). This is when they were both on one IDE Cable.

I took the jumpers off the hard drive, thinking maybe that could be it, no luck.

Re: Is there a solution

Update again - Ok, after playing with hte BIOS, I cannot get it to work with the controller card.

I re-did the IDE cable, with the parts on cardboard, back to Master - HDD Slave - CD-Drive and it loads windows.

But if i use the controller, i get a disk boot error..

EDIT - But i DID install the drivers.

Re: Is there a solution

Make sure you rejumper the CD-ROM to single drive when you put it on the controller
and the HDD to single drive also.

Re: Is there a solution

Single Drive means take the jumper off right?

The Controller has 2 IDE slots, a blue and a white one.

If i plug the blue end of the IDE cable into the blue slot, it locks at Verifying DMI or w/e.

Only when I plug the blue end of the IDE cable into the WHITE slot does it run the CD-ROM drive.

Re: Is there a solution

For the CD-ROM it probably only has Single/Master (needs a jumper). Only the HDD (WD) uses no jumper for single drive.

Re: Is there a solution

It has Cable Select, Slave, and Master.

Would that cause the hard-drive not to load and have a disk boot failure though?

Re: Is there a solution

It would if it is the first disk in the boot order.

BTW I found this at the Koutech site

"How to install PIR133 drivers with existing Windows 2000/ XP:
A: Step 1: Turn off your computer. Insert the Ultra ATA/133 IDE RAID controller card into a PCI slot and start Windows 2000/XP.
Step 2: Windows 2000/XP will inform you that is has found a “PCI RAID Controller”. Click the “Next” button to continue.
Step 3: Select “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)” and click on the “Next” button.
Step 4: Insert Driver CD into the CDROM drive. Select “include this location in the search” and click the “Browse” button to continue.
• Select CDROM drive
• Select folder “Silicon_Image”
• Select folder “SIL680RAID” (if you are not using RAID function, you still need to use this drive)
• Select folder “ Win_Drv”
• Click “Ok”
Step 5: The “Update Device Driver Wizard” will appear, informing you that it has found the “Silicon Image SIL0680 ATA/133 Controller” driver. Click “Ok” button and then the “Next” button.
Step 6: If the “Digital Signature Not Found” dialog appears. Click “OK” button and then the “Next” button.
Step 7: Follow the instructions to finish up the drive installation.
Step 8: Finally, switch off your system. Connect the hard disk to the Ultra ATA/133 IDE RAID controller card and start Windows 2000/XP."

Re: Is there a solution

No but you will still need a driver for the Card when the CD-rom is on it.

Re: Is there a solution

Without the CD-ROM connected to the card can you get into Windows and look at the Device manager and see if any conflicts exist for the card? Or if it has a driver installed?

Re: Is there a solution

Ok, I am currently posting an update fromth e computer.

I am in the device manager, and the drivers are there and up to date.

But there is something elsei noticed, there is anothe rSCIC/Raid controller that is on the motherboard already. JMicron Raid controller.

I cannot turn this off, can it be conflicting with the controller i installed?

I put just the harddrive in, booted windows.

Then i put the CD-ROM into the white slot on the card, and bam, DISK BOOT FAILURE.

Re: Is there a solution

In BIOS - look under "Integrated peripherals".
Expand "OnChip SATA device" and set "OnChip SATA mode" to IDE.

Re: Is there a solution

I searched the manual for jmicron - what is that?
Try disabling the SATA controller in BIOS.
Uninstall the driver for the controller card - then shut computer down.
Move the card to another PCI slot and start the computer - let Windows detect the card.

Re: Is there a solution

Tried it. Same thing.

if i leave the CD-ROM drive in the controller, it goes to windows setup, and then i get the stop 0x00000007b error.

If i dont have the cd-rom drive in the controller, windows loads fine, but then there is no cd-drive for the computer..

Re: Is there a solution

It can't go to setup - unless you have the Windows disc in the drive.
That is: Remove any disc in the CD drive.
