Re: Is there a solution

Thanks, I do have the CD for it, my mistake. Now when i tried to install the motherboard drivers, it seemed i needed windows. I put the mobo driver CD in, the computer loaded to Verifying DMI Input, and then never passed that position.

But when windows is in, it goes to Windows Setup.

Will I have this problem if I try and load the Driver Cd for the RAID card?

Re: Is there a solution

I think we have to make sure the HDD is working.

Connect the drive as the only device on the cable to the motherboard's IDE port.

Can you "see" the drive in BIOS?

If you read the reviews at Newegg you'll see that 50% of the buyers received faulty drives.

Re: Is there a solution

If you don't have a floppy drive:

Use the SATA CD drive when you install Windows.
Press F6 when prompted during installation - take the Windows disc out.
Insert the motherboard CD and see if you can load the SATA controller driver.
If the driver is accepted - put the Windows disc back and continue.

If that doesn't work:
Try this to create a slipstreamed XP disc with a SATA controller driver, service packs etc:

Download and run XP-Iso-Builder.

Follow the instructions.
At the step "Controller driver" (6/11) you can add the SATA driver - click Add > find the folder where the SATA driver is located.
The driver has to be unzipped and there has to be a file named txtsetup.oem included.
Next step > click "Start integration".
An ISO file will be created. Burn it with, for example, ImgBurn.

Re: Is there a solution

First did not work so i am trying the second. Now this is the most likely the problem even though the hard drive is not hooked up to the controller?

When i hit F6, it said "Setup is loading Windows XP for mass media storage <none>"

Is that just a conflict between the controller and the hard drive?

Re: Is there a solution

No, I think it's because Windows can't find the SATA driver on the CD.
I can't remember - is it possible to browse to the directory where the driver is located?
You don't need a driver for the IDE HDD if it's connected directly to the motherboard.
As soon as the Windows "environment" starts trying to load files it can't find the SATA CD (because of the lacking SATA driver) causing the 0x0000007b error.

Re: Is there a solution

Well which driver? the error is the stop0x0000007b, and the windows setup is showing that its not seeing a mass storage device to install to.

Im going to another computer with XP on it to try the XP-iso program, do you mean the SATA driver? i can browse that on the computer i'd imagine, but im still hooking it up atm.

Re: Is there a solution

No - the controller card isn't involved if you use the SATA CD drive and the IDE hard drive and BOTH are connected directly to the motherboard.
Then you'll only need to slipstream the driver for the SATA controller on the motherboard.

Re: Is there a solution

OH. the SATA CD-rom, its not a SATA. It is an IDE CD-ROM.

It's jsut that the only CD-ROM i could choose in the BIOS from the boot sequence was SATA CD-ROM.

It is not a SATA CD-ROM

Re: Is there a solution

Then I think you should take the HDD and the CD drive out of the case (temporarily) so you can connect them both on the same cable to the motherboard.
If you do that no extra drivers will be needed.
Once Windows is installed - download and install the driver for controller card.

Re: Is there a solution

Can be set somewhere outside of the case without risking damage? The reason i bought the controller card was the IDE cable did not reach for both the hard drive AND the CD-ROM, only one.

Yes, just put a piece of cardboard under each drive.

Re: Is there a solution

Make sure you get the drive jumpers right.
HDD = master at the end of the cable.
CD drive = slave at the middle.
