[SOLVED] No access to second hard drive
Hi.
On my Vista ultimate I fitted a new second hard drive (hitachi) as slave, I formatted and partitioned it with Acronis, all ok for a few weeks but now I can see the drive in Computer management but it has no drive letters and if I try to access it or put in drive letters I get The operation failed to complete because the disc management view is not up to date. .... It goes on to say about refreshing or rebooting but none of it works. I have disconnected the drive and rebooted then reconected the drive and again rebooted it recognizes the new drive but still the same problem. Have Googled the problem and it seems its resononably common but no solutions........unless anyone on here can help? PLEASE ! Forester08

Re: No access to second hard drive
Hi Nicholas.
Thanks for that but, unfortunately, no go. I have run it through three times but still the same. I can see the partitions in Computer Management but no labels and can’t access them…….but I can when I boot into XP. Thanks again for the reply. Forester |

Re: No access to second hard drive
How many partitions are there on the drive?
Run TestDisk again: A. At the first window, select No Log and press the <Enter> key. B. Select which drive to analyse, choose Proceed and <Enter>. C. Select partition type Intel if its a PC then <Enter>. D. Select Analyse then <Enter>. The drive/partition will be analysed. E. Select Proceed at the next screen, then <Enter>. F. Press Y if the partitions were created under Vista N if not. New screen - please post back with a screenshot. |

Re: No access to second hard drive
Everything looks OK.
I've searched the web and it seems like Acronis Partition Manager is incompatible with Vista. The best and easiest solution would be to start XP - move the files you want to keep on J: and K: to another drive. Then format the drive using XP's Disk management. |
