Very slow startup after installing external Harddisk
Hi.
Yesterday I installed an external harddisk (brand: LaCie) from 250GB. I moved 10GB of music from my disk D to it, and 5GB of pictures from my disk C to it. After I moved those files, my computer has an extremely slow start up. Everything goes normal until the moment comes where I should normally immediately get the ''account screen'' (blue screen with the accounts, windows XP ;)), but now it takes like 6 or more minutes!! I get a black screen (no lights burning on my keyboard..) and I have to wait like 6 minutes... Then I can click on my account and MSN starts up a bit slower than normal also... What can I do?? I'm sorry btw if my english is a bit bad, I'm from the Netherlands :P |

Re: Very slow startup after installing external Harddisk
Hi, welcome to TSF.
![]() Try starting the computer with the external drive disconnected. Any difference? How many anti-malware programs do you have running? One or two should be enough - have a look at this guide: PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need? Remove all startup programs - except your anti-malware and firewall. To do that: Click Start > Programs > Startup. Drag the "unwanted" programs out of that folder and drop them another place in the Programs menu. |

Re: Very slow startup after installing external Harddisk
If I start the PC without the harddisk connected, the startup is fast, like it was before.
But when I click on my account, it takes 5 minutes before i can start any program. I don't have any virus or malware or something. I'm going to try to put my PC in sleep-mode instead of logging off completely. Then the PC doesn't have to recognize the harddisk everytime I start up. Maby that will help?? |
