Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

G'Day rockos, Welcome to TSF!

I think in this instance, you are failling for 'the three card trick'.

Once Windows® has loaded the basic drivers ; formats the HDD, it will reboot a number of times...don't be tempted when the black "Boot from CD...." screen appears to "hit any key to boot from CD..."...just leave it alone and it will automatically reboot and carry on to the next phase of the installation.

Let it rip once more and post back with how you go this time.

Kind Regards,

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

Ok..if that's the case, let's try another way to get this cantankerous contraption to work....

Go here; download the freeware utility and run it on the HDD that needs the installation, and it should work. (click the coloured Link.)
One word of advice...read the instructions for Darik's Boot N Nuke before you run it.

Kind Regards,

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

I hate to say it rockos, but it sounds as though your HDD is kaput.

The best avenue now is to go to the the manufacturer's website for the HDD, and download their Hard Drive diagnostic tool...run it, and if it comes up with any errors; then, I'm afraid its off to buy a new HDD.
Sorry for the gloomy news.

Regards,

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

That being the case, you'll need to start right back from square one...

If you have any 'extras', such as Video Cards etc installed, remove them until you get this up and running.

Just have the bare basics installed and give it one more shot, and if that bombs out, I'll transfer you over to the gurus in our Hardware Team.

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

Hi Rockos,
I agree with chauffeur2, this sounds like a hardware issue.
Just so I get this straight. The PC is restarting at the part where XP wants to format the HD and you have replaced the harddrive and get the the same results? First, I would double check the BIOS and set it to default values if it is not already. Is this the only Harddrive on the system and is it on its own 80 pin IDE ribbon cable? How is the HD connected?
Thanks,
Bill

Hi rockos,

I'll transfer you to the Hardware Team...but, in the meantime, can you get another IDE Ribbon to connect the DVD separately as a Master?

Regards,
