Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

Make sure the Windows disc is clean and without scratches.

Install with just 1 RAM stick.

Try formatting the drive with Parted Magic.
It's a (free) Linux based, bootable CD with partitioning tools.

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

Seeing that you have set the BIOS to default values. (did you?)
and you have tried both jumper settings that I and Eneles suggested (you did, right?).
the next place I would go is to the XP CD.
Is this an original XP disc or a copy? Have you tried another XP disc and recieved the same results?
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

this is wat i got told

what settings do I have to change to install windows XP, it is rebooting after loading the drivers. I suspect it has something to do with the controller settings (mode its in) but don't have a clue how to change the bios.

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

In BIOS - set the IDE config. to "Compatible".
ide.jpg

Also in BIOS - disable:
Sound
LAN/Ethernet
SATA (if possible)
USB - use a PS/2 mouse/keyboard
You can enable those features again once Windows has been installed.

Hi Rockos,
Also, What power supply are you using?
Also, Please remove your Video card. You can use the Video connection on the motherboard and install your video card after windows is installed.
Thabks,
Bill

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

Are you getting any error messages or a BSOD screen?
Set the BIOS to Default settings and SAVE them.
Please download and run Memtest86 under my signature, This test will tell us if the memory is good. Run it for several cycles (2 to 4 hours). See if the memory will Pass
Also, I would run the dianostic utility from the HD manufacture to see if the HD is good.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

Hi Rockos,
From what I see all you have to do is connect the HD to your MoBo and you should be OK. I do not see where you need any additional drivers.
Set the BIOS to default settings and save (Just be sure it is set to boot from CD first).
Install the HD. Here is a link in how to:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...ATA_eng_r4.pdf
This should have come with the HD.
Go back into the BIOS and see if the Bios detects the new HD. Reboot and
put the XP CD in the CD-Rom and boot it up to run the installation.
Let us know if you run into problems.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

Hi Rocko .. I haven't seen any reply to my earlier question .. I now have another one for you ..

Why did you buy a new disk & What do you expect to do with it? Do you intend to use it to replace the drive that you're having problems with?

I suspect that you have been given a SATA disk .. is it SATA I or SATAII?
Does your motherboard support SATAII. If it doesn't you may have to configure the drive as SATAI using the jumpers at teh back of the drive near the power connector.
Drivers for Installing SATA will be on your Motherboard CD or if you have a recent version of XP (SP2) it should be automatic during installation. Make sure though that BIOS is enabled for SATA too!
