One of my Hardware Team colleagues is looking at this and will probably reply in a few moments.

Good Luck with it, I'll leave you in his capable hands.

Hi Rockos,
Where are these drives hooked up on the ribbon cable? Is the Harddrive hooked into the Gray (middle) and The DVD rom hooked at the end of the cable?
How is the Bios detecting these drives?
Thanks,
Bill

Hi rockos,
Review this link and tell me what jumper setting you have on the HD.

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

Master or single drive. If you are installing your Seagate hard drive as the only drive in the system or if it will be the primary boot drive for the system, the jumper should be set on pins 7 and 8.

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

Try setting both drives (HDD and DVD) to cable select.

Re: Problem Installing Windows XP PRO

Hi,
Eneles maybe right. Try setting both as Cable select. As far as the way you have it hooked up now it should be this:
"Drive as master with a non-ATA-compatible slave (Seagate® drives only). Set a jumper on pins 5 and 6 and a jumper on pins 7 and 8. Use this jumper setting only if the drive does not work as a master."
Let us know how you make out>
Thanks,
Bill
